1 week later!

Ok so we have been home for a week now and I figures it is about time I get on here and put some posts and pictures up. Lucas is doing absolutely fantastic. I couldnt's ask for a more beautiful perfect baby. The first few nights at home were pretty rough as he got up almost every hour to eat. Oh it was exhausting and finally startint Monday night Chad started sleeping on the couch so he could get at least a few hours of sleep for work. The past couple of nights have been way better and he usually wakes 3 or 4 times at the most. Just like any newborn Lucas is asleep all day and when he is awake he just lays there and looks around. We hardly here cries from him unless he his starving then he lets me know. Chad has been a great Dad so far and is completely hands on. I am so proud of him! Lucas now weighs over 8 lbs and was told by the Doctor this week to cool it on the feedings. Yeah you tell him that! I am so in love with my son I cant wait to see how he grows.

Lucas Birthday videos

More to come later!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCAS!!

My wife has done such a beautiful job on this blog, I thought I would help her while she is still in the hospital after giving an amazing birth to our son, Lucas Wyatt Power. I can only express now what many fathers conveyed to me before, that it is indeed...a life changing experience to see what we created enter into the world! Sarah was admitted on March 14th at approximately 8:30 PM. Shortly thereafter, the RN commenced with the inducement process. Her body was very receptive to the drug that most new, first-time mother's take considerably longer to have any positive results from. She was contracting so intensely (apx. 1 min apart) all night, that around 3AM, they pulled the drug out of her. Around 6AM, the RN began administering her Pitocin. A drug that makes contractions more intense and regular. Her nurse, and previous neighbor and personal family friend Nurse Laura (RN), was so caring and alert as to Sarah's needs based on Sarah's and Lucas' vitals. Sarah received the Epidural around 11:45AM and the contractions got very intense very quickly. She was having 3 consecutive contractions with only a minute in between, which, drew my attention to the vital monitor that showed Sarah's blood pressure at apx. 110/37 for quite a while and as she would have a contraction, Lucas' heart rate would drop to 68-90 BPS. Then, when the third contraction would end, his heart rate would jump to over 200 BPS. I didn't want to make it to obvious to Sarah I was getting anxiety due to the vitals quickly, and I was really honed in on the body language and astute feedback from the nurse. I walked out at one point to the nurse station and asked, "Are you nurses seeing the same numbers I am, or is this monitoring machine broken?" They kind of looked at me dumbfounded--Nurse Laura was also--very concerned! I caught her outside the door, and I said, "Ok give it to me straight, this is an issue, right?" She said, "oh yes, I have the doctor coming down immediately!" So she arrived within minutes, almost simutaneously admidst this current stress, there was optimistic hope...she was dilated to 9CM! Only because of this, she did not receive a "C" Section immediately. Doctor Tran immediately got her operating tray sent to her, and before I knew it, there was over 8 nurses and the Doctor and Nurse Laura. Janet and I were quickly recruited for important roles of holding the legs. I got the left leg, I think it's broken because I was pushing up on it with the anticipated hope she could do it!!! I can tell you it was more suspenseful than any situation I have ever been in my life! The babies vitals were still a major concern. The doctor made it clear we were going to do everything we could do to get it out naturally, but it the numbers continued, she'd have to take him to the OR. Sarah was nothing less than amazing...she pushed for 3 sets of 10 second intervals...and towards the end when Lucas crowned, the doctor made her push for over 1 min without stopping to get him out. Lucas came into the world on March 15, at 1:06 PST. He weighed 7 lbs., 12 ounces, and was the most perfect thing I've ever laid my eyes on :)! Janet was an awesome teammate, and I truly cherished this experience!

More pictures from the baby shower

Here are just a few more pictures I got from Chads mom of the shower..

Doctors update

I had a doctors appt yesterday hoping to go in and get the news that I was dilated and ready to have him. Well... I am not dilated at all but am 80%effaced which is progress from last weeks appt. I guess I should be happy to know that something is happening even though it's not as much as I wanted, I just made him such a good home the past 9 months that he doesn't want to leave it. If nothing has happened by next Thursdays appt then we will schedule a day the following week to be induced. I am praying that he will come before then because I hear being induced isn't too much fun. So back to the treadmill and eating spicy foods. Please Luke come out already!

Lukes eviction notcie from his Aunt...

My sister wrote an eviction notice for Luke on her blog today and I thought it was so darn cute I had to share it...

Dear Baby Luke (my soon to be nephew),

This is your final warning that your eviction day is soon approaching. It was agreed that your due date is March 8 and we all expect you to be out by then. Your mother has given up her body for the last nine months and I am pretty sure she is ready to get it back. She has endured pounds and pounds of weight gain, extreme swelling, night after night of heartburn, sleepless nights (I am thinking she'll still have those after you arrive) and pain and discomfort all over. Throughout your tenancy, you have caused nausea, food cravings and kicked her from within, over and over again. She's been a trooper through it all though, knowing that in the end, she would be meeting her beautiful baby boy. In fact, you have a lot of people very anxious to meet you. It would be very much appreciated if you would leave the premises by your eviction date so no additional measures will be required to get you out of there.

This gives you four days to get moving. We'll see you soon Baby Luke.

Love,

Your Aunt Stacey

Please keep my sister, Sarah in your thoughts. She has been tough this whole pregnancy and now that it's down to the end, she can only take so much more. Hopefully we will be welcoming the new addition to our family very soon and of course, as soon as we do I will post an update and pictures of the little guy. This is my first time being an aunt and I am so excited!
